In addition to the benefits incorporated in our 100% organic TFMD-3 formulation, TFA’s multi-functional “Heavy Fuels” formula is designed for larger engine applications using heavier molecular weight fuels, including all residual and crude blends used in heavy industrial, maritime and power generation combustion equipment. Heavier fuels contain fractions that are more difficult to combust. TFHP-3 offers operators an excellent high-ROI solution to address this problem while saving on fuel and fleet expenses and becoming more environmentally compliant
This formula treats heavy, crude, and other residual fuel oils, and is intended for use in large slow-speed 2-stroke and 4-stroke diesel engines, as well as in “open flame” applications with steady-state combustion characteristics (e.g., in gas/combustion turbines, boilers and heaters).
TFA’s current chemistry incorporates insights from our previous generation of products, which yielded +10% average improvement in fuel economy in large marine engines (applications included cargo, container, tanker, cruise and fishing vessels, and port-based and offshore supply fleets). Our newest advanced formula is much improved and incorporates benefits that include major environmental advantages. It is our belief that constant research, development, and testing is at the core of our ability to evolve and offer truly innovative products.
We engineer our formulations with high efficiency lubricity enhancers that are especially helpful for large engine applications, where cylinder lubrication is put to the test under extreme conditions. Improves thermodynamic efficiency.
Cleaning and deposit reduction characteristics to keep the combustion spaces, fuel system and post-combustion spaces clean. Especially relevant for vessel owners where exhaust gas economizers are often used for heat recovery (such as the generation of potable water in cruise vessels, where fouling of the economizer gas-side reduces efficiency and incurs extra cost for the procurement of water). Also provides “soot blowing” advantages and cleaner operations for merchant vessels.
While most vessels and modern power plants treat fuel to remove water and sludge, TFHP-3 adds anti-corrosive properties to provide additional benefits and fuel stabilizing advantages.
Maintenance, repair and operating costs consume a significant portion of budgets. TFHP-3 lowers these costs and helps elongate the life of combustion equipment. Cleaner operations are safer, improving conditions for operators and field personnel
Heavy fuels contain components that do not combust easily. These include aromatic and asphaltenic fractions and other long-chain hydrocarbons that require extra energy to break the chemical bonds and release the fuels’ energy. TFHP-3 is especially designed with carefully selected, highly efficient and proven trace constituents that are environmentally safe and which help catalyse the combustion of these fractions (these trace constituents reduce the overall throughput of ash, metals and harsh materials through the combustion system). Tests demonstrate NOx reductions by more than +20%, Carbon Monoxide by +60%, and PM by +90%!
Simply stated, the savings created by using TFHP-3 in your marine or industrial application will far outweigh the expense of the product. CONTACT US to find out how!

The shipping industry is facing transformational change … again! In recent years, implementation of the IMO 2020 fuel rules posed challenges for vessel owners, operators and managers. Forthcoming implementation of energy efficiency and carbon reduction compliance mandates are even broader and deeper in scope. TFA marine products are excellent solutions in meeting these mandates.
We IMPROVE COMBUSTION, INCREASE ENERGY EFFICIENCY, REDUCE FUEL CONSUMPTION and REDUCE EMISSIONS – exactly what is required. From slow-rpm steaming, to maintaining technical excellence and preserving profits, the new compliance measures call for a new path forward for small and large fleets. TFA expertise in marine fuels and shipboard fuel systems ensures ease-of-use, convenient deployment, and high net ROI advantages.
We specify TFMD-3 formula for ISO 8217 Standard compliant marine fuels (including ULSFO and VLSFO fuel blends).
For non-compliant fuels, TFHP-3 formula is recommended (including residual and heavier molecular weight fuel blends).
